What's New In This Issue

Greetings from your Editor In Chef for May.

"Friends are like the pillars on a porch.  Sometimes they
hold you up, sometimes they lean on you, and sometimes
it's just enough to know that they are standing by."
-  Author Unknown

"The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people goin' by
I see friends shaking hands saying, "How do you do"
They're really saying "I love you."
I hear babies cry, I watch then grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know;
And I think to myself, What a wonderful world;
Yes, I think to myself, What a wonderful world.
Oh yeah!"
-  Louis Armstrong

We are meeting countless challenges across the Globe and Our USA. In our personal lives and our work lives Our Families are learning what was taught were listening more were coming together as a Country & Globe. People are reaching out to help to aide others. It's beautiful thing. There is HOPE. We will find HOPE.
And as a Globe we are winning this War the War of the coronavirus that was not brought on by our selves or wanted as a World we are winning and we will come together through the darkness of the clouds to the Sun Shine of the days and the moon of the night. America is strong. So are our people.

Just like the Globe I WANT TO SEE this Active Worlds Community come together to help one another be a community of ONE. I sincerely want to see this same spirit that is felt across the Globe a spirit of community. Wake up community. Where are our Seq's writers , our tool programmers, our Gate Keepers or Peace Keepers where are they?
Where are Our citizens that are willing to tour the worlds with a new comer a greeter. Where are they? There is much to be thank full for. But there is much to be done. This is not about YOU it's about our Community coming together.
With in the next couple of months this Community will celebrate a land mark 25 years. And there are many people to Thank for this remarkable event. You the citizens. Far too many to Thank. Who built created ,modeled , Helped ,Taught in our Aw School, Guided, and Party ON AW Citizens. But Never Forget your fellow Citizen.
And the community has lost over the years we remember them with fondness they live in our hearts.
Just like the citizens of the World and the USA are giving people of their time, their dedication for all. So don't we owe OUR Citizens of Active Worlds m to come together as a Community? And write those Seq's and model and build purchase a new world open it up for all to see? Share with this community your build. You can do it. You can share your thoughts with the team of writers here and your Editor in Chef of this Virtual Life Newsletter . Our team wants to hear from you. Don't ask Your community to do for You what You can do for your community.
Share with Us your build, Your world.

I have to thank first and for most the Team of First Respondents who work in our Medical field who are on the front lines across the Country and the Globe, they face countless challenges of their own, They give from their Heart. How Grateful I am for their dedication their hard work. Many of these are Active World Citizens. So to all of them I say from my heart Thank YOU for the job you do saving and caring for our all . God Bless you. And God Bless the USA.

World of the Month

America

Drum Roll please
for the month of May America. It is only fitting as the end of May we will be celebrating Memorial Day.
May's World of the Month is the World America
Interview with Ciena former Citizen of Active Worlds.
Ciena Joined Active Worlds in 1998, Jetta Lewis chased her down from Where she was Dreamland Park. And encouraged her to be the CT of America.
I remember when I because an American builder, I didn’t know you only get 1 lot and I built on 5 lots. He deleted all but 2 and asked me to become an AB so I did.  Soon after this a group of builders were formed they called them selfies American Builder. New York Giants is a former American Builder. And this is where I met Ny Giants. You might say I “kidnapped” NY Giants out of America to help Me with movers and and Teleporting. He practiced this art of Teleporting Me back to America where I found my self in a pond of water or in the sky, some times I found my self in Mars or what ever world he felt I should be in. We became instant friends. Ny Giants is a excellent builder his talent is in Alpha as well as America.
.
Presently the Care taker of America is our very Own Max Poly. The World America is a amazing world.
With lovely rolling hills, to explore, theme park, movers, a Hunted House, a copy of the Bates hotel .Please stay out of shower. There is much to explore there and remember. The World America shows what this community can do with so many excellent models.
On n a personal note: I know that Jetta Lewis would be extremely proud as I as of this community. Jetta passed away but his heart is felt in the world America. Let's all celebrate the joy of America by visiting this world.

FYI & Support Given. Thank you Chris Question was posted by Mariane
Hopefully I am a the right place this time??

At the moment it is so hard to build one thing in AW. When bouncing or jumping from world to world the picture is looking like a huge mess - Image One. After "empty local cache" it looks good again, but each time I put a new object in - another mess. It is so with each single move. The joy of building is lying on a very small spot at the moment.  - It has been worse since last updating

Kind regards
Mariane

Since no kind of changes went into property loading and caching since more than a year, when property queries have been extended to 9 times the area (8 more asynchronous property queries to cover up to 500 meter view in each direction), all indices and references of the database have been rebuilt first. This has been a long outstanding task, last time done in December 2008.

Please, close AW, go to the AW folder, and delete the cache folder manually.

If it still occurs for you, please tell us the coordinates and what in detail someone has to do to reproduce the issue.

Thanks,
Chris

Build Tips

Movers

Many people, certainly new users, don't seem to know that directly south of Landing Zone in Alpha is a large Mover yard.
You can find good examples there of any type of User controlled Movers. Avatar accessories like wings.
'Vehicles' from balloons to skateboards, and examples of pick up items as well.
Somewhere in there is even a chainsaw to hold and wave about. This area is a good resource to see types and ideas and a good
starting point to build your own. I've often used it myself and although you may find other peoples mover yards here and there in Alpha,
this public yard has everything you need. It's not far at all from LZ, fly directly south from LZ and you can't m iss it, but
the coords are 7747s 1398e.

Tag

The tag command enables or disables any particle emitter with the specified name.
In front is a particle emitter without tag. This means it remains enabled until its lifespan runs out
tag tagname (flag)
tagname is the name of the particle emitter in question
flag is the boolean function which states if the particle emitter is enabled or disabled
Check the object property box of the PE and look for Tag Name and fill in the name you want in there
In front is a particle emitter with a tag. This means it can be enabled and disabled using the `activate´ feature
To see how this works for your self.Teleport to the Awschool Aw School cords 52n 20E
click on the two signs and read more.

In addition let's explore the Color Command

The color command is put in the ACTION line of the object properties box

The number scheme for the color and bcolor command is based on RGB colour with 256 values for shading(0 through to 255).
Each of the RGB colours ( primary ) Red, Green, Yellow & Blue
are represented by two hexadecimal digits <RRGGBB>.
By
changing the numbers in a specific two digit field the colour
becomes brighter(high values) or darker (low values). This
column shows Red Green Blue at their brightest values (ff)
Mixing the primary colours of red green blue or yellow will
provide additional colours but like video colour rather than
paint. Thus adding red and green together will make yellow
rather than black.
These secondary colors are produced by mixing equal values of two of the primary color Further color can be mixed by mixing unequally
These are some colors that can be done with numbers/letters combinations
To learn more about the color command teleport to Awschool 46n 20e

The Garden

Gardening Tips for the Home Gardener.

What You Sow Is What You Grow
With spring time here you may be thinking about starting a garden or adding to an existing one—and with good reason. We have a lot of FREE time on our hands right now, were stuck inside our homes, so help us get out side and some exercise perhaps ;the kids are at home school closed they are bored and your asking “when are they going back to school and my life will go back to semi normal.” No one knows for sure. So why not worry less about when and do something that will bring you and the family some joy and perhaps can feed you as well. You can still practice the 6 feet away guide lines each person in your family has their own planter or or pot. Their own bucket of seeds and soil. Just be sure and tell them they have to wash their hands after playing in the dirt.

What’s more fun, beautiful, or interesting than taking care of live plants at home? Still, planting outside (and particularly planting from seed) comes with its fair share of difficulties—which is why we’re here to help with a selection of the best indoor plants you can purchase and begin caring for today.
There is nothing like better then the taste of a home grown tomato or egg plant or yellow squash.
One of the best gardening catalogs I have found is Burpee Seeds & Planting Supplier. Catalog. Around this time of the year my mail box is full of planting seed catalogs. And by the early fall they are a little marked up and the pages turned down and sections are high lighted they are well used you might say. And I have a stack of them. I can not get myself around to tossing them out they never make it to the recycle bin.

If you don’t own a garden and space is limited, grow them in pots in your apartment balcony or patio.
Tomatoes are must grow in containers in summers. Provide them full sun, regular fertilizer and water and they’ll grow. Learn more about growing tomatoes in pots.
Growing Tomatoes In Pots? Note 13 Tomato Growing Tips For Containers
1. Like most things in life Location, Location, location. You can place your tomato pots in virtually any location. However, choose a place where the plants will receive a minimum of six hours of sunlight. Also, don’t place your pots closely to each other and provide air circulation. This helps in reducing the spread of fungal diseases.
2. Choose pots that will fit your tomato plants. For those who wish to go with the dwarf, bush types and vinelike cherry tomatoes, choose 3-5 gallon pots. For larger varieties, select large pots.
3. Choose Quality Potting Mix over Garden Soil When growing tomatoes in pots, avoid growing them in garden soil and provide the quality potting mix. This will give the plants a well-drained, light, and fluffy environment to thrive. Garden soil is not just heavy but can be loaded with unwanted pests and pathogens that can cause soil-borne diseases. You can also make your own potting mix with these

cloth object problem
I have started making a tutorial about Cloth objects, the last tutorial that i have to do in my tutorial zone in Yellow.

I saw 1 problem in Yellow on position 1895N 1413W. I started creating a default cloth, i mean with that : only changing the object type into cloth object without selecting any options. The default cloth object appears in the 3d scene.

But when i click upon another object , in order to go to the building mode, i noticed that the cloth object disappears after having clicked on another object, in this case, especially when you click upon the sign objects.

When i teleport to another world and i come back to the same spot, then the cloth object appears again. But when i start right-clicking again upon a neighbouring object , the cloth objects disappear again.

So this is not the same thing like you have with the mover object, where he mover disappears after having selected a mover option that the mover disappears. In this case, the cloth disappears, just when clicking upon another object.

So something here is wrong, and needs to be fixed.

I noticed it already a few weeks ago, but didn't think about posting it. But i will continue with the tutorial when this problem is fixed.

here must have been something else applied to that object already, before you changed the type to cloth. Perhaps a name, a link, gravity or zone, or something like that?

No, there was no command script on the original object.

I have checked it out by creating an extra cloth object . I changed walk012h.rwx into object type cloth, and that's all. No cloth options added of modified.

Then you get a default cloth object , an 8x8 fabric. And the extra cloth object disappears as well in that case.

I have made further tests: if i right-click on the terrain objects that i made walk012h.rwx and walk001h.rwx, then in most cases, the cloth objects remain. But i also have build sign objects ( sign5.rwx) with an action command, and in most cases, when i right-click upon them, the cloth objects disappear immediately. But they still exist in building mode. Then i teleport to another world and i teleport back , and the cloth objects appear again.

I told "in most case" - > Sometimes the cloth objects disappear immediately when i right-click on the sign-objects , but sometimes the disappear only after right-clicking 15-20 times on the neigbouring objects. But they always disappear, and that should never happen. You can check it out in Yellow world on position 1895N 1414W 180

from Gremot

i just went to your Yellow 1895N 1414W 180 coords
and open/closed obj editor over 75 times by right-clicking sign objects that are there.

not once did the 4 cloth objects disappear , or fail to display correctly,
so at least i can't reproduce what you describe

.
Hoi Panne,

I checked out the cloths you have built. I am not able to see the problem as you describe: where the cloths fully disappear after right-clicking another object (signs or walks). Actually, the cloth does disappear in much the same way a PE disappears in build mode, but I don't think this is the type of disappearing you are talking about. I'm assuming that once you go out of build mode the cloths still are disappeared?

There is one instance where the cloths do disappear fully. That is when I fly with my avatar to the 1900N coordinate at your tutorial location. At this point AW starts to lag a bit and the cloths all disappear. They do not reappear until after flying back out of the 1900N coordinate and right clicking an object. I had seen this problem a few years ago also, actually. When at a world coordinate in which at least one of the two ends in two 0's the problem occurs. I wonder if this is what is causing your glitch as well?

-James.
James,
From Panne:
For the answer to your first question : yes, when i go out of the build mode, then the cloths don't re-appear , that is the problem i have.

For the answer to your second question : i see that i have that problem as well : when i fly away from the cloths , passing away for the 1900 coordinates, the cloths disappear automatically too, but when i fly black, the cloths don't re-appear .

Also not after right-clicking an object ( and this last thing is obvious for me because right-clicking makes my cloth objects disappear too).

But : in your second case, if i fly to the south to position 1890N (6-7 cells to the south, still in visibility range), then the cloth objects re-appear automatically , without clicking.

I did then the same thing with my original problem : i right-click on an sign object, the cloth objects disappear, then i fly again to the south 1890N and the cloth objects reappear automatically as well.

And i did more tests : when i fly to the east , then the cloth objects re-appear as well , as from a distance of 7 positions , but sometimes 10 positions , and in the furthers case until position 1394W (still in visibility range) (=20 cells)

But when i fly to the west , then then this rarely works , the cloth remains (in most cases) invisible.

So, we are a bit further in defining the problem .....

Around AW

Please meet Tom Little a Citizen that came back to ActiveWorlds.

I first joined in 1998. I was thirteen. My Grandma bought me a computer. I love her, we text all the time. Love you, Grandma. ----I found ActiveWorlds searching lycos or yahoo lol it was the ninties.I listened to modem noises everyday after school just to log-in to AlphaWorld and eventually AWTeen and Mars --------Most of my early builds were very poor but I spent countless hours chatting with people inside of the structures and laughing at the building flaws. I formed some very sound friendships in-game. I stopped logging in to focus on high school. ------I now like to build to preserve my older buildings and maybe squeeze in the occasional surprise. I like the chatting but I really came back in-game with a passion for movers and the camera angle objects so i dont have any fancy builds. You'll occasionally see me driving around in my poorly built car and I tend to add everyone when we first meet. My names Tom Tuttle, I live in Tacoma and I am from Tacoma.

What would I like to see changed? Nothing. It was perfect in 1995 and its perfect now. The interface just keeps getting better. It has tons more features now than there were back then. Build wise? My first house is still standing, I still love it.4908N 5008W

Dewey's Maze

Solve my maze.

1. Shoulders Roll your shoulders forward and backward 10 times each to relieve tension and ease the muscles. Breathe in, lift your shoulders, crunch your neck, hold your breath for 30 seconds and then release your shoulders. Do this 10 times. Move each shoulder forward and backward alternatively, 10 times on each side.

2. Neck Stretch your neck forward, backward, to the left and right. This move reduces the strain on your neck, shoulders, and clears your mind. Clench your neck muscles until they’re taut. Hold for a few seconds and then release.

3. Chest Open your arms wide push your wrists and thumbs back and stretch your arms away from your shoulders. This will expand your chest and allow you to take in more oxygen. Repeat this exercise every hour or so.

4. Tummy Breathe in, suck in your tummy, hold it in for a few seconds, and then release it as you breathe out. Repeat this move every few minutes during your day. Breathe in and pull in your pelvic floor muscles. Hold this position for a few seconds and then release.

5. Arms Grab a full water bottle and hold it up over your head. Keep this position for 30 seconds and alternate with your other arm. Sit straight, move your chair back and hold both your arms out straight in front of you. Hold this position for 30 seconds and then relax. Rotate your arms clockwise and anticlockwise 10 times on each side.

6. Wrists Roll your wrists both clockwise and anticlockwise every now and then, at least 10 times with each wrist. Wrists are prone to Repetitive Stress Syndrome and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; you can prevent these from occurring by constantly working out your wrists. Flap your wrists frontwards and backwards as though you’re serving a tennis ball. Repeat this move several times.

7. Hands Squeeze a hand gripper repeatedly for at least a minute with each hand. You can do this while reading something on your screen. Keep your palms straight in front of you, and spread your fingers as far as they will go. Keep the position for a few seconds and then release. Repeat several times.

8. Fingers Get hold of exercise rubber bands or any strong, thick rubber bands. Loop a band around your forefingers and stretch it as far as you can and then release. Do this with your other fingers. Interlace your fingers and push your elbows apart. Do this as often as you can. The stretch feels good for fingers that have strained on the keyboard all day.

9. Ankles Roll your ankles clockwise and anticlockwise every hour or so. Take off your shoes if possible, stand on your toes and lean back. Your ankles will strengthen with this exercise.

10. Feet Clench all your toes and release them after a few seconds. Move all your toes and allow air to pass between them.

11. Calves Stretch your leg out in front of you and pull back your feet. This stretches your calves. Hold this position for a few seconds and then release. Do it 10 times with both legs. Lift your legs on the balls of your feet; hold the position for a few seconds and then release. This exercise will prevent blood clots from forming.

12. Thighs Breathe in, lift both legs together upwards towards your chest, keep your legs up for 30 seconds and release as you breathe out. Repeat every hour. This will pull at your thigh muscles and tighten them. Clench your butt and thighs and hold the position for 30 seconds. Release and repeat several times.

13. Butt Clench and unclench your buttocks alternately, holding them in the clenched position for 30 seconds each time. Clench both buttocks together and release them after 30 seconds.

14. Back Push your shoulders back until they meet in the middle of your back. Push your body slightly forward and exercise your back muscles. Hold the position for a few seconds and then release. Keep your body straight and twist your upper body at the waist to the left and the right. Twist it as far as it will go, moving your head along with your waist.
